Creation of a Website
My thoughts on creating our website lead me to examine the forward/backward movement of generations. Dan and I were born at the beginning of the "free thought" movement in the sixties. Traditional values and thought were just beginning to dissolve before our little eyes. A confusing time, leaving my early turn of the century parents dismayed and us with an interesting teeter totter of traditional values and new ideas. It makes me laugh to think of how much parent/child relationships have changed. Where my parents thought children were to be seen and not heard, ours speak out. It is a challenge, but not unlike theirs in trying to keep us quiet.
I remember thinking, "Don't tell me that I can't do something!" But, I didn't say it out loud or I would have regretted it. Thankfully it was mostly acheivement oriented! I felt the heavy handed thumb on what acheivements were acceptable- college, a good job with benefits, and marriage. Farming was not on the list, but it is now on mine with a committment to excellence in naturally grown, local, gourmet food products. The benefits are different than they had in mind. Security now flows with the seasons and blows with the winds. You inhale it and exhale it. It just is. Like God.
Now, we learn from our children especially about this new world of technology. Frankly, I am glad that they talk, think and share their ideas, because I learn a lot from them. It is interesting to look back at my great-grandmother's life and the life of my daughter. It gives me a sense of continuity and an understanding of how we are all distictly, important. Our spot in the generations is uniquely our own. We pass on pain and joy and we share trials and tribulations. The ebb and flow of generations, like security and the seasons flow, challenge me to be grow and leave something lasting to the next generation which includes this website. Walk with us on our farming journey...
